The Weekly Poll: What do you think about lowball offers?

Bargain Prices...

Do yourself a favor and get over there and click on the The Weekly Poll. You’ll be glad you did.

This week’s topic is one I wrote about 2 years ago and one that I’ve once again spent all weekend dealing with: lowball offers. It seems like every offer I get or write these days is a lowball – meaning at least 10% less than list price.  Occasionally these offers are accepted or closely countered, but more often than not the buyer winds up coming up on price a good bit or the deal simply falls apart because the seller can’t or won’t go super low.

So what do you think? Are lowball offers a waste of time or the only way you negotiate? Maybe something in between? Cast your vote and let me know what you think.

RESULTS:

Lowball offers are:

  • Warranted if a home is overpriced or in poor condition.(69%, 11 Votes)
  • Pretty much all sellers are going to get these days. (19%, 3 Votes)
  • Usually a waste of time. (6%, 1 Votes)
  • A good way to open negotiations. (6%, 1 Votes)

Total Voters: 16

  1. I got a lowball offer on my townhouse in Nashville. The bubble was just on the verge of bursting, but I still chose not to negotiate with the person who made the offer. I got a much better offer about a week later, so it was not to my detriment.
