The Weekly Poll: Do you think real estate signs are tacky?

high school prank

The weekly poll is not happy about the real estate directional sign in its yard. Go vote and cheer it up.

This week’s topic is about real estate signs and whether or not you think they’re tacky. As agents, we are tasked with marketing the properties we have listed in order to sell them. And from our point of view – and usually the seller’s as well – one of the most common sense ways of doing this is by using yard signs and directional signs.

With the exception of some very restrictive communities, most folks would agree that a sign in the yard of the actual home for sale is necessary. The signs people start to disagree on are the directional for sale and open house signs that point the way from the main road to the property for sale. I recently had a run-in with a home owner who – in not too polite terms – told me that he thought all my directionals were tacky. Not only that, but he took the liberty of taking them down and throwing them away himself.  Nice. And while I can appreciate his current point of view, I can’t help but think that when it comes time to sell his own personal home, he will change his tune when it comes to those “tacky” yard signs.

So what do you think? Do you think our real estate signs are tack? Or do you just hink they are  a necessary part of the home selling process? Cast your vote and let me know.

Absolutely not! When I sold my house I tried the usual signs they sell for house sales – didn’t work. I ended up making a bunch of custom yard signs to use and my house was sold in a month. Interesting picture though – looks like someone had fun messing with that yard, lol

I believe the signs are another marketing method to get the word out that a home is for sale. The visual indication works extremely well when you are searching in a unfamiliar part of the city or town.
